FOOD IS A CONVERSATION
with Rhona Richman Kenneally
Dr. Rhona Richman Kenneally is a Professor and former Chair of the Department of Design and Computation Arts at Concordia University in Montreal. She is trained as a professional architect, and also has degrees in English literature, social history, and architecture and design history and theory. Her research and publications address food-related interrelationships between people, space, and material culture, with special attention given to the built environment of the home as a site of mindful food-related activity. She is currently working on a book-length work on the the impact of new domestic technologies (such as electrification) on mid-twentieth century domestic space in Ireland, and on a special issue on Food Studies of the Canadian Journal of Irish Studies, an international publication of which she is Editor. Professor Richman Kenneally is the initiator of a research group in food studies at her university, which brings together professors and students from diverse departments in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, for the purposes of interdisciplinary engagement with food systems and networks.
