WHAT
Malnutrition is defined by the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization as “an abnormal physiological condition caused by inadequate, unbalanced or excessive consumption of macronutrients and/or micronutrients. Malnutrition includes undernutrition and overnutrition as well as micronutrient deficiencies.” Problems of malnutrition exist in all countries and transcend socio-economic classes.
FEEDING FAIR // Hacking Malnutrition is an open innovation event that will put a spotlight on malnutrition, and the way it affects our global food system. It will gather people from all kinds of backgrounds and skills – students from different fields of specialization such as agricultural studies, nutritional sciences and economics, entrepreneurs, tech innovators, chefs, developers, professors and international mentors – and get them to formulate and prototype ideas that will change traditional paradigms related to nutrition.
HOW
Eight pressing issues related to malnutrition, hailing from select Expo countries, have been chosen as our hackathon challenges. Each individual can choose the specific challenge they would like to work on by going online and visiting the Feeding Fair website, where they will find a list of each challenge. Here they will be able to sign-up to their preferred team.
